Anthropologists in Art and DOBRE Cultural Platform present:
IF I COULD REACH THE BORDER, THEN I WOULD STEP ACROSS
Time and the other in the visual language of
Andrij Bojarov and Jan Dziaczkowski

April 6th – May 18th, 2013
It is the very first exhibition in the Netherlands which gives
an overview of the works of two contemporary artists from
Eastern Europe - Jan Dziaczkowski (Poland, 1983-2011)
and Andrij Bojarov (Ukraine/Estonia, b. 1961). The exhibition
reflects upon how the two artists appropriate and incorporate
foreign imagery into their domestic art praxis,
thereby creating a new home-grown visual language.
The Border, mentioned in the title, symbolizes the separation
between Eastern Europe and capitalistic societies,
not only on the geographical and political level but also in
its cultural schemes and aesthetics. Throughout history,
Polish-Ukrainian intellectuals and artists often tried to reach
upon this Border and by adopting western icons into their
own work, manifest their presence and appurtenance
to international art world.
Exhibition is organised in collaboration with
The Foundation for Visual Arts from Krakow.
